No fluctuations were seen in the interbank market on Saturday as the rupee maintained its overnight levels for buying at Rs 60.43 and selling at Rs 60.45, dealers said. Supply of dollars was tight due to strong demand by the importers, they said.
In the global market yen rose sharply for the second straight day on Friday as steep declines in global equity markets prompted investors to bail out of risky trades financed by borrowing in the Japanese currency.
Equities have tumbled, government bonds have rallied, and expectations of global central bank tightening have been drastically scaled back this week amid concern that US sub-prime mortgage-related losses will spill over and choke economic growth.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee did not show any change against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.80 and Rs 60.85, dealers said. The rupee failed to retain its firmness, losing 31 paisa against the euro at Rs 82.81 and Rs 82.91, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The recovered five paisa in relation to dollar on Lahore currency market on Saturday.The dollar started trading at Rs 60.83 and Rs 60.93 as its buying and selling rates but at the end of trading declined to Rs 60.80 and Rs 60.90 on buying and selling sides because of lacking buying support.
The pound sterling maintained its Friday's closing level and remained unchanged at Rs 122.50 and Rs 122.80 on buying and selling counters.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The buying and selling rates of dollar against rupee remained unchanged at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.90 (buying) and Rs 61 (selling) against the same overnight value. It did not observe any change in the second session and closed at Rs 60.90 (buying) and Rs 61 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 123.30 (buying) and Rs 123.70 (selling) against the previous rate. It did not witness any change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 123.30 (buying) and Rs 123.70 (selling).
