A final decision on the venue of this year's Champions Trophy World Hockey Tournament will be taken early next month. The Samsung men's Hockey Champions Trophy tournament is scheduled to be held in Lahore in December this year.
"At meetings held in Beijing, China during the Olympic hockey test event, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) considered the possible effect on the tournament", according to FIH dispatch available here Saturday.
The FIH will consult with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and the participating teams before any decision is taken not to hold the tournament in Lahore, adds the dispatch.
A decision on a replacement for Australia, which has already withdrawn from the tournament, will be made after consulting the reserve countries, it said. "No further decisions are expected before early September 2007", it concluded.
PHF officials, meanwhile, have expressed their firm resolve to hold the tournament at Lahore. New Zealand is expected to take the place of Australia in the six-Nation competition.
