Gunmen shot dead a leader of a banned extremist group in Peshawar on Sunday, police said. Muhammad Aslam Farooqi, a provincial leader of Sipah-e-Sahaba, was fired upon by two motorcyclists when he came out of his house at the Kohati Chowk neighbourhood, Deputy Inspector General Abdul Majeed Marwat said.
He said the police arrested one of the assailants but he did not give more details. Witnesses said that the people arrested the gunman with his pistol when he was trying to flee after the incident. The people later handed over the suspect to police.
