Water level in Mangla dam on Tuesday rose to the sign of danger following torrential rains and floods in the upper catchment areas. Official sources of Mangla dam confirmed about rising of water level up to 1201.45 feet on Tuesday due to heavy rains in the catchments.
Water in the reservoir could be raised to the current highest level of 1202 feet, although presently Mangla Dam is designed to store water in the reservoir up to the level of 1210 feet. But because of the illegal occupation of the reservoir's land along its banks, through construction of residential buildings by the population dwelling along the periphery of the reservoir, water is released only up to the level of 1202 feet.
