US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher on Thursday said the US Congress would do legislation for establishment of Reconstruction Opportunities Zones (ROZs) in the tribal areas of Pakistan in September. He was talking to Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao here at his office.
Talking to media persons after the meeting Interior Minister Sherpao said that he briefed Boucher about the successful meeting of Pakistan and Afghanistan Peace Jirga held in Kabul. He was informed that the Jirga decided both the sides would take steps to improve the bilateral relations between the two countries and the two sides would avoid use of offensive remarks against each other.
He was further informed that Pakistan and Afghanistan made two Jirga commissions on each side to ensure the implementation of Peace Jirga's decisions. Sherpao said, Boucher expressed his satisfaction over the successful meeting of Peace Jirga and said it would improve the people to people contact.
Boucher said the Jirga meeting has developed a positive image of the two countries in USA. Interior Minister also briefed US Assistant Secretary of State about law and order situation in the country, issue of Lal Masjid, prevailing situation in tribal areas and counter terrorism and narcotics measures. About forthcoming general elections, Boucher said USA wants free, fair and transparent elections in Pakistan.
