Educational activities remain disturbed due to tense situation in the mainstream universities and colleges of the city while medical university remained closed on Thursday.
According to details, after the death of a student in a clash between two student organisations on Wednesday, educational activities were badly disturbed in universities and colleges of the city.
As deceased belongs to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), therefore Dow University of Health Sciences and its affiliated colleges, Sindh Medical College (SMC), Dow Medical College (DMC) and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) remained close on Wednesday.
"Security personnel are main reason of creating such scenes because they don't like peace in educational institutions," said Naveed Anjum, student of MBBS.
Another student of final year, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre Sana Ullah said that outsiders, present in Shah Latif Hostels, are main cause of criminal activities in Sindh Medical College, JPMC, Jinnah Hospital, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Kidney Centre and National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).
Dozens of students turned up to the medical colleges despite the fact that colleges were announced to remain closed. Students belonging to Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) also staged a protest demonstration. Protesters urged government to arrest the murderers of Hafiz Abdul Rehman and evacuate the Shah Latif Hostels from outsiders who are involved in criminal activities.
Students, participating in protest, took a round of hospital and SMC departments besides taking out a rally causing traffic jam for about half an hour before JPMC.
Syed Riaz Ahmed, spokesman Islami Jamiat Talba, said that protest would continue till the arrest of killers and if government failed to take necessary action then it would be responsible for the consequences.
On the other hand, this situation also disturbed academic activities in other universities and colleges as these institutions remained in grip of fear. Karachi University, NED University of Engineering, Dawood Engineering College and Jamia Millia College and Technical Institute were disturbed due to tense situation and educational activities remained interrupted as there was a chance of clash between students organisations, Islami Jamiat Talba and Punjabi Students Association. Additional contingents of law enforcement agencies were deputed in educational institutions on the request of respective administrations.
