A notification has been issued to establish new medical college for 100 students of MBBS starting in the Post-Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) with classes resuming on October 1. The PGMI Principal Professor Dr Sajjad Hussain disclosed this to Punjab Information Technology Minister Abdul Aleem Khan in a meeting here on Friday.
He told him that 75 percent seats would be offered on open merit while 25 percent of the admissions would be made on self-finance scheme. "This medical college would be of international standard and all the modern techniques and aids would be available there," he added.
He appreciated the prompt action by the chief minister in this regard and lauded the efforts made by Abdul Aleem Khan in this regard. He also briefed the minister about further requirements of Lahore General Hospital and requested for co-operation in this regard.
Talking to the delegation, Abdul Aleem Khan said that establishment of this new medical college in Lahore has proved another promise made by Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
He said the government has given top priority to the health sector from the day one and provision of free medicines in all the emergencies was big step in this regard. "This new medical college in less develop area would provide an opportunity to the students from middle class," he added.
