Apropos a news item carried by the Business Recorder on August 17, Wapda has clarified that the procedure to collect sales tax through electricity bills stands implemented in Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco), Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco).
In remaining Power Distribution Companies (Discos), classification code could not be updated on new procedure due to late receipt of collection procedure from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and time constraint vis-a-vis billing cycle. It is expected that the system will be fully implemented during September 2007.
It is pertinent to mention that Wapda through SRO 678(1)/2007 is to collect sales tax at the rate of Rs 4.75 per unit of electricity consumed by steel melters, re-rollers along with electricity bills, inclusive of the General Sales Tax (GST) at the rate of 15 percent on electricity. The detailed procedure for which was intimated on August 03, 2007 from FBR to Wapda.-PR
