Suez Canal July revenues higher

Egypt's revenues from the Suez Canal climbed to a record high of $406.3 million in July 2007 from $358.8 million in June, a Suez Canal Authority official said on Monday. The number of vessels passing through the waterway rose to 1,761 in July from 1,679 in June, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters.
The Suez Canal Authority raised fees on ships going through the canal in April by an average of 2.8 percent. The canal is an important source of foreign currency for Egypt, along with remittances from Egyptians living abroad, tourism and oil and gas exports.
