Heavy rain and non-availability of private transport service have paralysed industrial production activities in the city on Wednesday. Industrialists said that majority of industrial workers using public transport could not have reached their work places.
Chairman, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Masood Naqi said that there was only ten present attendance' in industrial units He said that around 75 percent industrial production suffered due to non-availability of workers. Transport also remained off the roads. Employees using their own transport also remained absent, he added
Replying to a question, he said that he received no report of power failure from any part of Korangi industrial area. He said beside closure of industrial units exports also suffered huge losses owing non-availability of transport.
Chairman, Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry (FBAATI) Masroor Ahmed Alvi said that around 50 percent industrial production suffered due to thin attendance He said that heavy rain paralysed public and private transport. Alvi said that shipment of goods also suffered due to restriction imposed on movement of heavy transport during daytime.
Pattern-in-chief, North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI) Captain A Moiz Khan said around 90 percent industrial units in North Karachi industrial estate remained closed owing to thin attendance. He said that rainwater entered several industrial units in the area-distorted raw material and finished goods. Replying a question, he said it is too early to say how much losses industrialists had suffered due to heavy rain.
He said that goods shipment activity was also hit due to heavy rain and restriction on movement of heavy transport. In Site industrial area production activities also suffered drastically power fluctuation was reported as well.
Industrialist of the areas said that majority of workers did not manage to report to their duty. Those who succeeded to reach their offices had to leave their offices after some time. Besides non-availability of workers, power failure, fluctuation and low voltage played a big role in slow downing industrial activities.
