'Afgan can be sentenced for contempt of court'

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui has said that Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sher Afgan can be sentenced to six months maximum jail term for his contempt of court remarks. In an interview with the BBC he said the Supreme Court has issued notice to the minister, but he has full right to defend himself in the court.
He said the courts are giving decisions according to the Constitution and law. To a query the former Chief Justice said the contempt of court has become much liberalised in Pakistan and under that liberation, one can give opinion on any decision but doing so, one should be careful that he may not blame the court in the sense which reflects that the courts have demonstrated partiality, or one should not scandalise the courts also.
