In a major reshuffle, the government on Saturday replaced portfolio of Federal Minister for Law Wasi Zafar, Federal Minister for Privatisation and Investment Zahid Hamid, Chief Commissioner and Inspector-General of Police, Islamabad, who were allegedly involved in the manhandling of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on March 12.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, and following which, notification was issued to change the portfolio of the Law Minister, who had become controversial after the Presidential reference.
Barrister Zahid Hamid has been made new Law Minister, and Wasi Zafar has replaced him as Minister for Privatisation and Investment. Chief Commissioner Khalid Pervaiz and Inspector-General Police, Islamabad, Iftikhar Chaudhry have also been removed.
Hamid Ali Khan has been made new Islamabad Chief Commissioner and Islamabad DIGP Shahid Nadeem Baloch has been made Acting Inspector General of Police, Islamabad.
Moreover, Law and Justice Secretary Mansoor Ahmed's resignation has been accepted by the government, and Malik Hakim Khan, a Draftsman, of BPS-21, in the Law Ministry has been assigned additional charge of Law Secretary.
The decision has been taken as a goodwill gesture to cool down the tempers of the countrymen after filing of the controversial presidential reference against the Chief Justice.
