Ali Hassan Gilani, MNA and federal parliamentary secretary for science and technology, has announced to resign from Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and to join PML-N reposing confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday afternoon along with PML-N acting president Javed Hashmi he said that he had handed over his resignation to Javed Hashmi and also sent it to the Prime Minister.
He said that he had resigned from PML-Q and he did not submit his resignation to the Speaker to quit parliament. However, Nawaz Sharif could utilise his resignation whenever he required.
He said that he had favoured General Pervez Musharraf's seven-point agenda but he deviated from his commitment and sent a reference against Chief Justice, launched an operation against Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa without taking the party or parliament into confidence.
He claimed that more than 50 MNAs had differences with the leadership in PML-Q and they were against the re-election of General Pervez Musharraf in uniform. Gilani said that he did not attend the meeting of General Pervez Musharraf in Bahawalpur and 17 other members had also boycotted it.
Javed Hashmi welcomed the joining of Ali Hassan and said that he would play the other card in due course of time and he had the resignation of more than 50 legislators in his pocket. He said that Ishaq Khakwani was "our brother and we have had contact with him". Credit went to southern Punjab, which had taken the decision boldly.
