The average price of Bangladesh teas fell 2.64 percent to 76.93 taka ($1.11) per kg on lower demand at the weekly auction on Tea. "About 1.36 million kg weerage price of 76.93 taka per kg, down 2.09 taka from the previous sale," said an official of the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.
The withdrawal percentage was 24.31, as transportation and shipment problems reduced both internal and external demands, he said. Buyers from Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the weekly auction.
Internal buyers said distribution of tea across the country had become difficult following floods that killed over 700 people and severely damaged crops and infrastructures including road networks over the past weeks. Pakistani buyers lifted very few quantity complaining dearth of space in ships to carry the cargo home.
