The Lahore High Court adjourned till September 11 the proceedings of a petition filed against Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, challenging his degree. Meanwhile, the court ordered Islamia University registrar in Behawalpur to give the record of the respondent in the next hearing.
The petitioner engineer had challenged the respondent's election, arguing that the degrees produced by the respondent were faked and he should be disqualified from parliament. He also told the Election Commission to hold a fresh election in the NA-53 Constituency in Texila.
While, Technical Board Punjab Controller Asaad Butt said that the respondent's name was registered in their board as 'Sarwar Khan' and his father's name never matched. Petitioner Engineer Jamil Ahmed told the court that the respondent sat for six semesters and flunked. The court refused to allow exemption to the respondent minister, ordering him to appear before the court in the next hearing.
