Children are our future and they need intensive care in their early age to make the foundation of the state stronger. This was stated by the Chancellor of Ziaudin Medical University, Dr Asim Hussain, while speaking as a chief guest at a seminar, titled "Baby Show 2007," organised by Liaquat College of Medical and Dentistry here on Wednesday.
Expressing his concern over the mortality rate, he said that in Pakistan it was continuously increasing and the government should take emergency measures to control this hazardous condition.
Dr Asim said: "Healthcare professionals should play a vital role in creating awareness among the people, especially in the women about child health." Highlighting the importance of women's education and their training, he stressed the need for training and educating women about the child health, as the mother was the first institution for any child.
He added that a good mother could build a whole nation by providing with good training to her children. He also stressed upon the people, mothers in particular, to have knowledge about the diseases that hit the children in early age so that children could be saved from these diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Romana Iqbal said that this was the first responsibility of mothers to provide healthy environment to children. Women should get their children vaccinated properly and must be well aware about their basic needs because any carelessness in this regard could prove fatal for their children.
Praising the role of the parents, Dr Asif Aslam said that it was a good sign that now-a-days mothers and fathers both were struggling to remove their socio-economic problems and working for wellbeing of their children. Dr Ali Faran, another speaker in the seminar, said that profession of medicine was being ignored in the country since its creation, which posed threats to the health of the nation.
The government should look into the matter and take necessary steps to improve the prevalent situation of this important profession, he said. Later, the management of Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry awarded 18 children of one to six-year-old for completing their vaccination. Ali Kashan of Generation School stood first in the competition.
