The Monopoly Control Authority (MCA) said here on Thursday that it had collected substantial data to investigate the cement price hike case and had been engaged in finalising the report to be forwarded to the Federal government.
The MCA Inquiry Committee has already collected substantial data despite poor response from the public for the provision of information," a press release issued by the authority said.
"At present, the MCA is engaged in recording statements on oath from relevant individuals, including Chief Executive Officers of selected cement manufacturers," it said adding that after this, the committee would proceed to sift and analyse the information and data through the inquiry process and finalise its report.
It may be recalled that the MCA, in response to a reference by the Federal government regarding the upsurge in cement prices earlier this year, had formed a committee comprising two members and two senior officers to conduct a special inquiry.
The conclusion of the inquiry would be submitted to the government. "While the Authority is confident that the report would be an informative and well-reasoned document, the process does not per se call for a decision of the Authority," the press release added.
"However, in case the inquiry reveals any information that obliges the Authority to take cognisance under the provisions of the MRTPO, it will be duly bound to do so and to take such steps as are necessary in accordance with law," it concluded.
