Founder of Economic Research Academy Sajjad Akhtar has filed a suit in High Court of Sindh for damages of Rs 50 million against President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Chairman of Fairs, Exhibition and Trade Delegation Committee of FPCCI Farook Ahmed Sheikh.
Sajjad Akhtar, represented through Saadat Yar Khan, advocate, contended that driven by envy and malice, Farooq Ahmed Sheikh and Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh had launched a defamatory campaign against him. In pursuance to such defamatory campaign, Farook Ahmed Sheikh had written a defamatory letter wherein he used indecent and humiliating words against Sajjad Akhtar.
Using the letter head of the FPCCI, he circulated the same amongst various notable members of the business community. Sajjad Akhtar prayed that the honourable court may direct the defendants from further circulating such defamatory letters against him and the defendants be directed to pay damages and compensation of Rs 50 million.
Sajjad Akhtar was the founder chairman/managing editor of weekly Pakistan Economist, later converted to Pakistan and Gulf Economist. He established the first research organisation in private sector in Pakistan named Economic Research Academy.-PR
