A senior civil judge in Lahore has restrained the Rana Brothers (Importers of Indian Sugar) from marketing the substandard Indian sugar after the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) forwarded a petition.
Taking a stern action against the responsible ones the court also issued notices to the Federal Food Agriculture and Livestock Ministry and the customs collector in Lahore for September 1 and ordered them to respond to the petition. The court said that the order would never affect any other legal and judicial proceedings.
The PSMA counsel argued that the sugar was substandard and injurious to the public health as per certificate issued by PCSIR laboratory. He said the respondent was violating the trade policy and marketing of the substandard and injurious to health sugar in Pakistan, still lying in the railway godowns.
He also urged the court to have the godowns sealed by a local commission and the respondent customs collector to ensure the court orders were implemented. He said if interim injunction was not granted it would cause harm to the health and safety to the public.
Further, he said that the court to ensure the existing stock of imported sugar laying in godowns at the Lahore Railway Station customs clearance T-10 not be transported.
