Bhekhi police after an hour of armed encounter on Thursday night, arrested four notorious criminals of Zaffar alias Zafri gang, wanted in several cases of dacoity and other heinous crimes. This was disclosed by District Police Officer (DPO) Sheikhupura, Dr Muhammad Shafiq at a press briefing here on Friday.
He said a Bhekhi police squad was patrolling on Faisal Road late Thursday night when they spotted the accused near Nawankot area. The latter opened fire on the police team, and a gunfight ensued. The policemen were able to overpower and arrest all four accused after an hour's encounter, and recovered a number of weapons from their possession.
The DPO said that during the initial investigation the accused admitted to several crimes, while a large number of weapons and ammunition, as well as stolen goods including motorbikes, jewellery and cash were recovered on their indication.
He said the arrested accused, ring leader Zaffar, Usman alias Haji Mochi, Omar Daraz and Kamran alias Kami were involved in a number of dacoities, murders and other crimes, and were wanted by police in Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Nankana and Sheikhupura areas.
SP Investigation Rao Munir Ahmed, ASP Ali Javed, DSP Sadar, Shahzada Tariq, SHO Bhekhi, Imran Khalid and other senior police officials were also present on the occasion. The DPO said that IG Police Punjab and DIG region-I have announced to award commendation certificates and cash prizes to the officers and staff who fought and arrested the accused.
