The government has notified 15 percent increase in the salaries of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Federal Ministers and Ministers of State with effect from July 1, 2007, official sources told Business Recorder.
The efficiency of concerned ministries can be gauged from the fact that the notification of increase in salaries of government employees had been issued in the last week of July without mentioning raise in salaries of Prime Minister and Ministers. The notification of 15 percent increase in the salaries of Prime Minister and Ministers was issued on August 29.
Sources said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was drawing Rs 65,000 salary per month and now he would receive Rs 74,750 after 15 per cent increase announced in the 2007-08 budget.
However, special relief allowance and ad hoc relief would continue to be admissible at frozen level on existing conditions. Dearness allowance of 15 percent of the previous salary of the Prime Minister, sanctioned with effect from July 1, 2006, would also stand frozen at the level of its admissibility as on June 30, 2007, but it would not be admissible to new entrants.
In terms of sub-section 22A of section 22 of the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) Act 1975, salaries of Federal Ministers have been increased by 15 percent to Rs 52,900 from Rs 46,000 whereas State Ministers would draw Rs 48,933 against Rs 42,550 per month.
