A Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) spokesman has said that a general meeting was held on Friday at the association's office in Lahore, agreeing to stop doing any business with Rana Ayub (sugar dealer of Lahore) after criticising him for his attitude towards the sugar industry and unethical language he used in his press reports.
Rana Ayub levelled baseless allegations against the sugar industry. The association strongly condemned his anti-industry activities. "He has tried to destabilise the sugar prices, which is now selling below the cost of production. Rana Ayub is playing in the hands of a mafia of importers who are promoting the Indian sugar in Pakistan, jeopardising the growers' interests here," the meeting said.
The spokesman said the Indian sugar could cause the crushing season to be delayed since the industry still held sufficient stocks and it was imperative that the sugar be sold before the next crushing season starts. "PSMA Punjab Zone members believe that it is important for the survival of the sugar industry to blacklist unscrupulous elements like Rana Ayub. The members present in the meeting urged all members to boycott Rana Ayub since he is serving the individuals who are neither sincere with Pakistan nor want to see the growth of the Pakistani industry," the spokesman said.
"The same lobby wants to create law and order situation in the country because if the crushing season is delayed, growers of the country will protest for the disposal of their produce."-PR
