District Nazim Mardan Himayatullah Mayar has said that the district government was taking every step to provide facilities to the farmers and has directed the agriculture department to facilitate stakeholders by disseminating modern research to them.
He was addressing a focal group discussion arranged by Women Association Struggle for Development and Human Rights and Development Organisation with the collaboration of Actionaid Peshawar at Union Council Mayar.
Nazim of UC Mayar Asifullah Mayar, Shazia Hina of Actionaid, Azra Hussain Syed of WASFD and office bearers of HRDO briefed the participants about the findings of a survey conducted by the organisation to identify the problems of five union councils including Mayar, Toru, Jalala, Macchi and Shergarh.
The survey revealed that shortage of irrigation water, lack of knowledge, skyrocketing increase in the prices of inputs and substandard seeds and pesticides and middle man were the main problems of the farmers of the area.
The participants urged the government to take action against the elements involved in the sale of substandard and expired pesticides and adulteration in the chemical fertiliser. Speaking on the occasion programme officer of Actionaid Shazia Hina said that farmers would have to unite on one platform to raise voice for the solution of their problems.
The district Nazim Himayatullah Mayar assured that district government would devise a strategy to support the farmers against the exploiters and help them in adapting modern day agri techniques. On this occasion farmers discussed their problem and suggested various steps to solve the problems.
