Chief Minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi while praising the performance of highways patrolling posts has said that the posts were proving helpful in curbing crimes and promoting a sense of security among people. Chairing a meeting to evaluate the performance of the patrolling posts here on Sunday.
The chief minister said that highway robberies and carjackings had reduced by 70 percent because of 210 patrolling posts working in the province. He said the posts were also playing the role of help-line for the people. Punjab Highway Patrol Additional IG Javed Noor gave a detailed briefing about the posts' performance.
Elahi said his government had trained staff deputed at the patrolling posts with the latest know-how, enabling them to face any situation and also given them first-aid training.
He said 522 posts would start operating in the next phase of this project. He also approved the provision of additional staff for the posts and ordered police officers to improve the inspection system of these posts. Additional IG Punjab Highways Patrol told the meeting that the system had given a sense of security to the public.
Provincial Minister for Law and Local Government Muhammad Basharat Raja, Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique, Planning and Development Chairman Suleman Ghani, Home, secretaries of law , communication and works and other were also present.
