The District Magistrate Islamabad, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali has appointed six special teams under three Assistant Commissioners and three Magistrates to maintain balance in prices of consumer items.
These teams have already started checking prices in their respective areas and are directing the shopkeepers to ensure the sale of food and other consumer items at affordable rates, said the spokesman of District administration. A help-line with landline number 9261504 has also been set up to register complaints against profiteers.
The Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Ali said that the district administration is finalising arrangements to set up fair price shops and `Sasta bazaars' to provide consumers with flour, pulses, rice, meat, dates, sugar, vegetables and other items at cheaper rates.
He mentioned that as many as 35 fair price shops would be set up in urban areas of Islamabad to facilitate the consumers with commodities at subsidised rates during Ramazan while mobile fair shops would also be arranged for the rural and urban areas of the Islamabad.
The food department of Islamabad has also made elaborate arrangements to ensure supply of food and other items at lower rates in Ramazan, he added. Ali ordered strict action against people involved in adulteration and hoarding. He also added that the department was collaborating with traders and suppliers to ensure frequent supply of vegetables and fruits during Ramazan.
