The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) UK will be holding the first-ever MRCGP (INT) examination in Pakistan for primary care physicians at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore on November 30.
RCGP has recently agreed to collaborate with the UHS to develop a cohort of trainers and teachers in general practice / family medicine and to assist the latter in supporting and promoting a pathway to achievement of the South Asia MRCGP (INT) examination for family physicians, a spokesman of UHS said here on Wednesday.
A meeting of the scrutiny committee for admissions of MRCGP (INT) candidates was held here on Wednesday. The committee selected 65 candidates who would appear in MRCGP Part-I examination. Dr Aftab said that it would be the only training programme for more than 100 thousand practising doctors of the country.
The MRCGP (INT) accreditation was developed by the RCGP in response to the wishes of overseas colleagues and the world-wide need for development of high quality postgraduate assessments.
It enables a country or region to develop an examination at the same level and academic rigour as the MRCGP in the UK, appropriately tailored to local needs, culture, health practices and education systems. The aim is to provide a clear framework for locally relevant assessments, with the availability of RCGP advice and support.
Dr Aftab Iqbal, President Pakistan Association of Family Physicians (PAFP), Dr Noor Ahmed Akhtar, Board Member MRCGP, Dr Mazhar ul Islam, Chairman CME PAFP, Dr Shaharyar Ahmed Bhatti, Dr Nasir Shah and UHS Director Medical Education Professor I.A. Naveed attended the meeting.
