A master plan for reconstruction of three major cities Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Rawalakot of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has been completed and these cities would be reconstructed on modern design.
Sources in the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra) said on Wednesday that all the reconstructed cities would be self-sustainable in essential common facilities including housing, health, education, roads and shopping facilities.
"Chinese consultants and contractors have been mobilised to develop the infrastructure design of the Muzaffarabad city that was badly affected by earthquake on October 8, 2005," sources added. Rawlakot would be developed as a potential tourist resort by transforming the town into a tourist hub of AJK and 23 potential tourists sites have already been identified.
"All the devastated buildings of historical, cultural and religious significance will be restored with the help of extensive public participation," sources added.
In Bagh city three hill tops including Bagh hill, Kotri Qandeel and Hullar hill would be developed as tourist resorts and a museum would be established in historic Bagh Fort after completion of work for its preservation. "Concrete efforts have been made to create socio-economic linkages between physical development and over all economic development of the region," sources said.
