Members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have demanded of Sindh Governor Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Arbab Ghulsam Rahim to devote their attention to the law and order situation, since the coming elections might traditionally bring more criminals on the streets.
In an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon, KCCI members warned that deterioration in law and order situation might compel them to rethink their investment, reconsider their business plans, and to review their commitments for the future.
The business leadership of Karachi strongly condemned the murder of a Site industrialist, who was also the scion of one of Pakistan's leading industrial and trade conglomerates. The young industrialist, Abdul Aziz Khatri, was gunned down in cold blood by one of the many criminals spread on the roads and lanes of Karachi. As always, there has been no presence of police at busy intersections since these policeman are either on VIP duty, or on political duty or on personal duty of their higher-ups.
They also demands that the police higher-ups should stop the colonial mentality and start doing what they have been appointed to do. "Get the police on the roads and on the streets and even in their police stations". They demanded that VVIP security be handed over to Rangers as the police use this duty as an excuse to stay away from their core functions.
KCCI seriously condemned the attitude of the government that has abdicated its prime duties and obligations and is fully involved in nonsensical political maneuvering and petty distractions. The time has come for the business community to assert their rights and to notify the political parties and administration that enough is enough.
