Voice of Women (VOW), the FM Radio station of the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) relayed live transmission from 8am to 4pm on Thursday to celebrate Defence Day and to pay homage to the forces of Pakistan.
A play "Nishan-e-Haider", produced by Aneeqa Naseer, revealed the lives and professionalism of the martyrs (Shuhada) who have been awarded with this supreme honour. "History of 1965 war", produced by Sofia Nawaz, focused on the chronological events of 1965 war. She also produced a programme on devotional songs during the 1965 war.
Huma Aziz produced a programme describing women contributions and their role in the Pakistan Army. Massages and memories of the people from different fields were also broadcast. General Masood-ul-Rehman Kiyani (Retd), Dr Nighat Ara, former senator and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Ashraf Ansari and Begum Shahida Ejaz Azeem, wife of (late) General Ijaz Azeem talked about their experiences during the war.
This special live transmission was arranged to acknowledge the services of courageous men and women who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. VOW holds a tradition of conducting live transmission on special events. Keeping this tradition alive, Radio VOW will also hold a live transmission on September 11, on the death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
