Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that consistency and continuity of policies undertaken by the government of PML and its allied parties have considerably raised the standard of living of the people and their continuity is critical for the country's future development, an official statement said on Sunday.
He stated this while talking to Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who called on him at the PM's House on Sunday. Shaukat Aziz said that a stable political environment is necessary to achieve the economic goals, which the government has set in the recently launched Vision-2030 programme.
He said the federal government as part of the Ramazan package is providing subsidy on 700 items through Utility Stores to keep the prices of essential commodities within the reach of common man during Ramazan.
Shaukat Aziz asked the provincial administration to speed up measures to improve the supply of essential commodities to control their prices in the open market as well. Price magistrates, he said, should be mobilised to keep a check on prices.
The Sindh chief minister apprised the prime minister of the status of the probe being carried out to find out the cause of the collapse of Shershah Bridge at Northern Bypass in Karachi recently.
The prime minister said those responsible for the tragic incident should be taken to task. The Sindh chief minister assured the prime minister that members of the Sindh Assembly belonging to PML and allied parties fully support President's elections from the current assemblies.
He also briefed the prime minister about the overall law and order situation in the province and the security arrangements being made in the province particularly in Karachi during Ramazan. Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim updated the prime minister on the status of ongoing development projects in the province and assured of timely completion of the public welfare projects. He also apprised him of the rehabilitation efforts underway in the flood-affected areas of Sindh.
The overall political situation in the province as well as matters relating to PML and the coalition also came under discussion during the meeting.
