Reduction in import duties on 4,000 items under the Free Trade Agreement between Pakistan and China has opened new vistas of increasing the two-way trade and brightening the chances for exports of Fabrics, Made Ups and Home Textile to China.
This was stated by Chairman Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), Mian Zahid Aslam talking to newsmen here on Thursday on his return from China as the head of a trade delegation.
He said that new trends in manufacturing of home textiles particularly towards Jackawrd design in curtains were observed by the delegates during the visit to Intertextile Shahnghai. Further the new change in printed Bedware was displayed by Portugese, Spanish and Turkish manufacturers, he added.
Zahid Aslam said that during interaction with foreign manufacturers keen interest for importing textiles from Pakistan was shown and negotiations were maturing.
He said that rapid industrial progress of China was attributable to dedicated labour minimum overhead expenses and cheaper gas and electricity without break down and scales of mass production besides other factors. During visits to various textile units in Wujin district of Cahngzhou province the delegates had the opportunity of first hand experience of observing the manufacturing process of textiles products including spinning and processing he added.
He further said that Chinese had established machinery manufacturing joint ventures in collaboration with the German manufacturers of knitting machines adding, there was a dire need of establishing such machinery joint ventures in Pakistan with the collaboration of advanced industrial manufacturers of the world in order to make a real and worth while progress. Ningbo region importers he said had shown keen interest in import of cotton yarn and leather goods from Pakistan during the visit of the delegation. He emphasised the need for wider dissemination of FTA details and frequent interaction and exchange of visits between business community of the two countries.
