The PML-N lawyers' forum has set up a hunger strike camp within the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) premises, protesting the murder of Advocate Raja Riaz and attack on the Sindh High Court. PML-N lawyers' Forum President Khawaja Mehmood, Punjab President Nasir Bhutta, Lahore President Wali Muhammad Khan sat in the camp.
The office-bearers of the LHCBA also expressed their solidarity joining them. While addressing bar members, Khawaja Mehmood and others said that the government has failed to protect the public and enforce law and order in the country.
Criticising the role of the government they said that the government is responsible to safeguard the high courts and other democratic institutions but attitude of the government towards such institutions exposes that the government does not want to strengthen the democratic institutions in the country.
They said lawyers always fight for the rule of law and strengthening democratic institutions in the country, adding that they would continue their struggle in future.
They called upon the government to arrest the culprits of Raja Raiz and expressed that they would continue to hold hunger camps until their arrest. They also asked the Chief Justice PakIstan to take suo motu action against the people responsible to attack on the Singh High Court and the murder of Advocate Raja Raiz.
