Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (Parc), Dr M E Tusneem has said that the government has a lot of expectations from agricultural scientists to increasing the agricultural produce and ensuring food safety for the country and its people.
Dr Tusneem expressed these views while addressing the senior executives of Parc during a specially convened meeting to exchange views on the "Performance Management - 2007" strategy at National Agricultural Research Centre (Narc) here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by senior scientists and officers including members finance and social sciences divisions; Director General Narc; Secretary Parc and the heads of various institutions and projects under Parc.
Highlighting the salient features of the Parc Reform Agenda and the newly launched 5-year "Research for Agricultural Development Programme", Chairman Parc underlined the need for a continuous review and monitoring mechanism of the research activities. He said the Parc scientists were the research leaders not only for the council but they also had responsibility of the national leadership.
He called upon the senior executives and the scientists to focus on improving the performance of the council and its attached centres and institutions across the country, based on innovative research and adoption of latest human resources development and practices, to make the country's apex body a success story.
"Self-assessment and improving effectiveness are few qualities for senior management that help bring in qualitative changes in any organisation," he maintained.
Dr Tusneem stressed the need for updating the performance evaluation report (PER) of each and every employee of the council in order to ensure timely disposal of promotion and training cases. On the occasion Chairman Parc also reviewed the pay fixation and pension cases in respect of Parc scientists and other supporting staff.
Earlier, Malik Abdul Rauf, Member (Finance) and Dr Muhammad A Matin, Secretary Council apprised the meeting of the various measures that have been taken for settlement of pensions and pay and fixation cases vis-à-vis updating the performance evaluation reports.-PR
