The funeral prayers of two workers of Islami Jamiat Talaba were offered separately at Numaish Chowrangi and in Malir Khokharapar here on Friday, who were killed by firing of unknown assailants on a minibus, Thursday evening.
The funeral prayers of Imran Shahid were offered at Numaish Chowrangi, after Friday prayers, attended by a large number of people. Sirajul Haq, Amir Jamaat-i-Islami NWFP, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqi, a leader of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, MNA Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, MPA Nasrullah Shajji, IJT Karachi Nazim Syed Rasheed were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Nazim-e-Aala IJT Pakistan, Nasrullah Goraya gave a-week's ultimatum to the administration to apprehend the terrorists involved in the killing of seven students. He recalled that during the current year eight IJT workers had been killed so far.
In case the government fails to bring the culprits to book then a call to besiege the presidency in Islamabad would be given which was sheltering the terrorists in Karachi and other parts of the country, he said and added protest rallies and demonstrations would be held in educational institutes across the country over the incident. The IJT workers also chanted slogans against law enforcing agencies and government over its failure in maintaining law and order situation.
The funeral prayers of Atif Butt were offered in Malir Khokhrapar which were attended by a large number of IJT workers and office bearers. Funeral prayers of two other IJT workers had already been offered late Thursday night.
Karachi University remained closed on Friday after the incident to prevent any unpleasant situation. KU officials said that the university would remain close on Saturday as well.
Meanwhile, the killing of four KU students also paralysed the academic activities in some other educational institutes of the city. The attendance in NED Engineering University, Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College, Federal Urdu University for Science & Technology and other institutions remained very thin.
The security was also stepped up in educational institutes after Thursday's incident and additional contingents of Rangers and police were deployed to avoid any untoward situation.
