The Nation has just celebrated the Defence of Pakistan Day to pay homage to the Shaheeds and Ghazis of the September 1965 War who fought valiantly the sneaking enemy and laid down their lives in defending the sacred soil of the Motherland.
No words are great or enough to pay tributes to the brave and courageous people of Pakistan and the officers and jawans of the armed forces. The officers and jawans of the three Armed Forces of Pakistan had indeed sacrificed their lives to save the country for posterity.
President General Pervez Musharraf in his Defence Day message to the nation, as reported by the media, rightly asked the people to revive the spirit of 1965 and resolve to make Pakistan a truly dynamic, prosperous and democratic welfare State for the present and future generations.
General Pervez Musharraf surely reflected the sentiments of 160 million Pakistanis when he said that Pakistanis desire a bright future, a motherland which is politically stable as well as economically and militarily strong. I fully endorse the President's observation that this cherished objective can only be achieved by defeating the handful forces of extremism, militancy and obscurantism which pose grave threats to Pakistan's security and integrity.
Indeed, we had risen as a united and integrated nation in September 1965 to defend the sacred soil of the motherland. Now, the motherland demands from us national unity and determination to fight together the retrogressive forces to secure Pakistan for the posterity from the internal threats.
General Pervez Musharraf has only reminded the people of their obligations towards Pakistan. It is now for all of us to respond positively and work together to take Pakistan forward as an enlightened, moderate and progressive nation. We owe this much to our motherland surely.
