The world mourns the loss of a remarkable human being who embodied the best of both corporate as well as socially responsible values, and taught businesses to succeed with a conscience. Dame Anita Roddik was synonymous with her brainchild, the Body Shop, a pioneer in modern corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices.
The company was against animal testing and supported community trade; promoted diversity in employment practices as part of its self esteem principle and promoted positive messages on women rights; defended human rights; and lead by example in its endeavour to protect the planet.
Lead Consultant of MTI Consulting Pakistan, Dhanushka Jayakody said that Roddik's sense of business and its repercussions on the rest of the world was an instinct far ahead of its time.
She had revolutionised the concept of social responsibility, integrating it with the strategic direction of the business by involving and educating the customer in every step of the way. "We are inspired by her model ideas and strive to emulate it in our day-to-day work", says Jayakody.-PR
