The leaf blight on rice crop, especially on super basmati variety, has been increased in some parts of the rice growing areas, reveals a Directorate General of Pest Warning report.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary, Fayyaz Bashir has directed the field staff of Extension and Pest Warning Wings of Agriculture Department, to guide and assist the farmers for taking immediate measures to check further spread of the disease in order to protect the rice crop.
Experts have advised the rice growers to eradicate weeds from water channels and take necessary measures to avoid water flow from one field to another. They have also advised the farmers to spray copper-based fungicide at a ratio of 500 grams per acre of field in addition to 500 ml NPK liquid fertiliser.
Further, in case of appearance of brown spots on leaves, farmers have been suggested to spray mancozeb 80 percent WP at the rate of 500-1000 grammes per acre with alternate use of 500 ml NPK liquid fertiliser.
