Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) on Saturday announced to encompass NWFP Assembly building on presidential election's day and not to allow the MPAs and MNAs for casting votes in favour of General Musharraf.
The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) through a unanimous resolution also demanded of Maulana Fazlur Rahman and PPP-P chairperson Benazir to give up their support for General Musharraf and join the opposition fold in the larger national interest.
The legal fraternity asked secret agencies to end action aimed of terrifying the lawyers otherwise offices of the secret agencies would be surrounded. The lawyers also expressed their anguish over the increasing terrorist activities in NWFP and criticises the apex courts for not taking suo motu notice of the violence being unleashed in the province.
Addressing the PHCBA general body that met in his chair, president High Court Bar Association Latif Afridi observed that lawyers could not be tamed with terror and violence saying the day legal fraternity had started their struggle for removing the military dictator, they had been subjugated to violence and torture.
However Afridi said that terror and violence could not stop lawyers from their genuine struggle of supremacy of law and establishment of true democratic system in the country. The President PHCBA strongly condemned the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raids on PHCBA general secretary's office and slammed the arrest of his two clients.
"The action was meant to terrorise the lawyers and put pressure on them to end their struggle against the military dictator however lawyers would not bow before such mean tactics, which have been adopted by the rulers," Afridi remarked.
Strongly condemning the Chaudhry brothers, PHCBA president said that history would not forgive the Chaudhries of Gujrat for their support to military rulers. "The oblivious politicians such as Chaudhry of Gujrat have pushed the country towards quagmire and encouraged the nepotism and corruption in the country whereas every citizens of Pakistan has become very insecure during the unpopular rule of General Musharraf," Latif Afridi observed.
Karim Mehsud, president Fata Lawyers Forum held the secret agencies responsible for the increasing terrorist activities in NWFP saying that people like Malik Saad, Maulana Hassan Jaan and Afzal Khan Lala were being targeted because of their stance for peace and tranquillity.
"The generals are not in favour of peace in NWFP therefore they are busy to promote terrorism in various parts of NWFP and Fata," Mehsud remarked. The PHCBA in its general body meeting passed two separate resolutions that unanimously decided to encompass the provincial assembly building on October 6, the date fixed for presidential election and announced that lawyers would not allow any MPA or MNA to cast his vote in favour of a military general.
