National Bank of Pakistan is the only bank among all regular and private banks in Pakistan which deals in maximum disbursement of pension amounts to hundreds of thousands pensioners, retired from various institutions of government as well as corporate sectors.
Many of retired people, specially the old and sick widows in their remaining days of life depend for their livelihood on payments of pensions. They deserve all kinds of human sympathy and courtesy in dealing with them.
It is a matter of shame, if bank officials address pensioners by saying, "Jalde Se Mar Kyon Naheen Jaati, Kyoon Zinda Ho Tang Karti Ho, Bhik-mangee Kaheen Ki, Har Mahene Aa Jaati Ho Bheek Maangne, Dafaa Ho Yahaan Se."
The said words are usually uttered by the officials of the bank (Gulshan-e-Iqbal Branch) Karachi dealing with widow on disbursement of pension amounts from Employees Old Age Benefit Institutions (EOBI) Karachi. One of those widows happened to be my mother, whom I always accompany to this NBP branch for receiving EOBI pension.
In routine, the Branch Manager and his team hold pensioners waiting for long treat them like beggars and conduct this work in a very insulting, rude, inhuman and humiliating manner. Their cruelty deeply hurts the hearts of pensioners, particularly the sick, who burst into tears on their helplessness and often feel as to why are they alive in this world.
This particular branch of NBP looks like a torture place for pensioners, where hard core bank officials fearlessly behave like police officials handling criminals. This shows, the anti-banking attitude, indiscipline and overall mismanagement, which is the root cause of diverting most of the NBP clients to other private banks, except under compelling reasons.
President, National Bank of Pakistan is requested to replace all rude officials by polite, well behaved and customer caring officials including female bank officials to deal with ladies to stop cruelty on poor and helpless pensioners at NBP (Gulshan-e-Iqbal Branch) Karachi.
The Chairman, EOBI is also requested to kindly take up the matter with NBP and transfer pension accounts of all EOBI pensioners from NBP to some other regular or private bank in Karachi, where bank officials treat pensioners like human being.
