The low pressure of piped natural gas has been badly affecting the preparations for Sehri and Iftar in the metropolis for the last two days. Gas consumers in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, parts of Azizabad and Liaquatabad and Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Jauher, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, Korangi, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony areas are complaining of low gas pressure in their stoves.
They are also complaining of stoppage of geysers due to low pressure or at times discontinuation of gas supply in their homes. The residents of flats and apartments are the most affected due to low gas pressure. Nusrat Jehan, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 4, said that last night (Monday) she faced hardship in the preparation of food during Sehri.
"I had to ignite my stove again and again as pressure was very low. The geyser was also not working and I had to torch the pilot burner twice to get warm water", she added.
Similarly, a housewife in Korangi Quarters also faced similar problem during afternoon when she was frying Samosa and Pakora for Iftari. "I don't know how many times I had to lit the burners. It was simply a headache. We are a joint family and we need cook more food than a single family".
Bashir, a sweet mart shop owner in Liaquatabad said that low gas pressure has been badly affecting his business for the last couple of days as his commercial burners were not producing sufficient heat to prepare samosa, pakora and jalebi on fast track.
Meanwhile, the news agency has been continuously receiving telephone calls from various parts of the city especially from Gulshan, Gulistan-e-Jauher, Korangi towns, Mehmoodabad, Azizabad and Shah Faisal Town about the low pressure of gas. The complaint telephone numbers of SSGC are still out of order due to construction work, being carried out by city government around Hasan Square. An official of the SSGC said that the concerned department was constantly monitoring gas pressure all over the city.
