The Parliamentary leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and Naib Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Liaquat Balouch on Wednesday said the People's Party was giving relief to General Pervez Musharraf by all means in what he claimed the unconstitutional presidential election.
Liaquat Balouch, who was detained by the government, told reporters on telephone that nomination of Makhdoom Amin Fahim as presidential candidate was in fact deviation of People's Party from joint stance of opposition parties and the strategy evolved by the lawyers community.
According to a spokesman of Jamaat, Balouch said that People's Party was bent upon to come into power with the help of Establishment and now it appears that this party has no concern with the struggle for restoration of democracy and the Constitution.
He said Benazir Bhutto has been out of country for the last 10 years and now whatever she is doing just to please America, West and the army Establishment in a bid to get power. Referring to the statement of Benazir Bhutto about giving access to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)to the pioneer of Pakistan's nuclear programme, Dr AQ Khan, if she comes to power, Liaquat Balouch said this statement has shocked the nation.
He was of the view that causing loss to national interests is an irreparable crime. He said that by doing so PPP has unveiled its true colour and people have known the intention of PPP of Pakistan will reject the party in the forthcoming general elections.
He also hailed the remarks of Justice Javed Iqbal during the proceedings of petitions against holding of dual offices by President Musharraf that the doctrine of necessity has been buried.
Moreover, detention of Liaquat Balouch has been challenged before the Home Department by Jamaat-e-Islami through Mohammad Asad Manzoor Butt advocate. It was prayed in the application submitted to the Home Secretary that action of the government detaining Liaquat Balouch is illegal.
The Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Syed Waqas Jaffery has termed detention of MMA leader as illegal and violation of democratic principles. He said arrests of Jamaat activists from across the country had exposed the real face of the government.
Meanwhile, Naib Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Zafar Jamal Balouch reacting sharply over statement of Benazir Bhutto about Dr AQ Khan said that People's Party was still busy in bargaining with America and Pervez Musharraf. He said Benazir Bhutto was creating confusion through her acts.
