A Gulf-based company will construct first ever seven-star hotel in Karachi at Shahra-e- Faisal very soon with a grand investment of around one billion dollars. Business Recorder learnt this by well-informed sources of Sindh Planning and Development Department here on Friday.
Sources said, although, the firm was ready for commencing work on this mega project, waiting for green signal from the provincial government. The decision to provide land for construction of the proposed project was taken in the last meeting of Sindh Cabinet held in April with Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in chair sources said.
They added that the land for the proposed project situated near Karachi Water & Sewerage Board head office, meanwhile, Karachi District Government said, raising objection, that CDGK was owner of the land and demand to induct the city government in the process as well. However, a scrutiny committee was set up with authority to take up the matter and remove all ditches in this regard.
Furthermore, sources said that Karachi had the capacity to build more four and five-star hotels to accommodate rapidly increasing number of foreign visitors and tourists besides official delegations every year.
"Rooms in all big hotels in the metropolis are occupied by foreign and local visitors and you have to reserve the room prior to their arrival," they said. "It shows the urgent need of more luxurious hotels in the city to provide convenient accommodation to the visitors."
Keeping in view of the shortage of accommodation facilities in the hotels, Sindh government was inviting investors to build the hotels in the city, sources informed.
The demand of CDGK caused delaying to start project. The differences between the provincial government and the city government are almost settled down and it is expected that the firm would start its very soon, sources added.
