More than 800 profiteers had been fined Rs 200,000 for over-charging and not displaying rate list prominently during the current month, said Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Hamid Ali Khan. He said the drive against profiteering would continue in the federal capital and quality of food items would be ensured at all costs.
The quality of food items was also being checked and sampling of food items would continue on regular basis through out Ramazan, he said. The Chief Commissioner said the display of rate list had been also ensured by the shopkeepers.
Khan said that abundance supply of food items, wheat and flour has been also ensured in the market. "The ample supply of food items has resulted in decrease in prices of essential commodities," he said. The chief commissioner said that constant check on prices had created a deterrent effect and had helped in controlling the rate of items of daily use.
Chief Commissioner said the Magistrates were imposing fines amounting to Rs 8,000 to 10,000 on profiteers during price checking on daily basis. He said that consumers had also been given adequate representation in the district price control committee, extending a great deal of help to magistrates during anti-profiteering drive in Islamabad.
Hamid Ali Khan told that Islamabad Capital Territory administration had been addressing the complaints of consumers urgently and immediate action was being taken for redressal of complaints.
He said the fixation of prices of certain important food items during Ramazan had helped stability in the prices of food items. Hamid Ali Khan said the artificial shortage of items had been curbed well in time. Maximum relief had been provided to the consumers by setting up 30 fair price shops and Sasta Bazaar in sector G-7, he maintained.
