Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPAs have handed over their resignations to the deputy leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly, Sanaullah, denouncing President General Pervez Musharraf as presidential candidate.
Nafees Ahmed Ansari, MPA of PML-N told newsmen that this judgement had broken the back of the optimistic nation and is entirely against the law and the constitution. He said, "The party believes that the entire process of the presidential election is illegal as they are being conducted under unconstitutional assemblies and an illegal parliament." He said that if PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had not been deported on September 10, a large number of ruling PML MPAs would have been tendering their resignations.
He said that six MPAs from the ruling party were in contact with PML-N, wanting to join the party immediately. But they would only be welcomed to the party after consulting the local leadership. He added that his party would submit resignations to the PA speaker after the All Parties Democratic Movement leaders had done the same. He said the arrest and harassment of party workers was illegal and unconstitutional. He said that some generals had held the country hostage for their vested interests.
