Islamabad Police has registered FIRs against journalists, lawyers and political activists under different sections for creating law and order situation in front of Supreme Court on Saturday.
Among those lawyers named in the FIR registered with the Aabpara Police station are Dr Imtiaz Ahmad, Shabbir Ahmad, Atta-ur-Rehman, Chaudhry Mussadiq, Muhmmad Naeem, Chaudhry Sadiq Ali, Munir Ahmad Malik, Malik Mansoor, Aslam Pervez, Imtiaz Gul, Chaudhry Muhammad Zamir,Muhammad Zahid, Muhammad Idrees, Dr Muhammad Abdullah and Rana Muhammad.
On the other hand. Secretariat Police lodged FIRs against the activists of Pakistan People Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League -N and Muttahidda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) for their allegedly involved in violating the section 144. According to reports, some of the lawyers had also been sent to Adyala Jail, who were arrested on Saturday.
Dr Farooq Sattar, Deputy Convenor of MQM also registered FIR against six lawyers, who allegedly beaten him outside polyclinic including Hassan Raza Pasha, Junaid Khokhar, Attiq Khan, Shuakat Satti, M Kamran and Chaudhry Zafar at Aabpara police station.
Farooq alleged in the FIR that M.A Khan, Munir A Malik Tariq Mehmmod and Hamid Khan were also responsible for his manhandling. According to sources, Secretariat Police has registered an FIR against a number of journalists for their allegedly involvement in the manhandling of State Minister for Information Tariq Azeem outside the Election Commission of Pakistan.
It is learnt hat the FIR has been sealed and police are not in the position to disclose the name of the journalists who are booked in it.
On the other hand, Afzal Butt secretary general of Rawalpindi and Islamabad Press Club said that Secretariat Police on Saturday refused to register their FIR against the police officials who beaten media-men, who were performing their professional duties.
Meanwhile, Inspector General Police Islamabad has ordered for inquiry into the violence against lawyers and journalists outside the Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday.
According to Islamabad Capital Territory administration, IG Islamabad, Syed Marwat Ali Shah constituted an inquiry commission headed by Superintendent Police, Islamabad Taimoor Ali Shah who would prepare detail report on the incident within a week and present it to the high ups.
Dozens of lawyers and journalists were subjected to manhandling and tortured on Saturday in front of Supreme Court of Pakistan who tried to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan where nomination papers of presidential candidates were being scrutinised.
However, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has taken suo motu notice of the incident and asked the concerned authorities to present before the apex court on Monday.
