Members of Parliament belonging to All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would collectively resign from assemblies on Tuesday in protest against President General Pervez Musharraf's candidature for becoming President for the third term.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Raja Zafarul Haq, Chairman, Pakistan Muslim League (N) flanked by Senator Maulana Samiul Haq said that resignations of APDM members have been submitted to him and these would be presented to the respective assemblies on Tuesday.
He said that there should be no doubt in dissolution of NWFP assembly as entire APDM leadership had decided unanimously to dissolve it in a bid to block what he termed 'unconstitutional' and 'illegal' move of General Pervez Musharraf.
APDM leader said police violence against journalists and lawyers in front of Election Commission and deportation of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif shows that there is martial law in the country.
To get rid of this, he said, all the democratic forces needed to be united and effective at this decisive moment. On the occasion, Senator Maulana Samiul Haq said that he had handed over the resignation of his son to Raja Zafarul Haq following the APDM decision. He, however, expressed his concern over the double standards of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal leadership, saying that it cheated the people as well as the APDM leadership regarding dissolution of NWFP assembly.
Maulana claimed that due to the double standards of the MMA leadership, NWFP assembly would not be dissolved at this crucial juncture. He said although he disowns the manifesto of the APDM, yet he would support the opposition by resigning from assemblies.
