Dengue Fever induced death toll rose to four on Tuesday with the expiry of a young player Jawad Ahmed Khan at Liaqut National Hospital. Jawad, aged 22 years, employed with a national organisation as a player was a resident of Malir.
He remained hospitalised at a health facility located nearby his residence for some time and was shifted to LNH on Saturday with profuse bleeding. Dr Shakil Malik, Additional Health Secretary told APP here Tuesday that the deceased confirmed to be Dengue Positive had developed hemorrhagic fever causing massive bleeding as well as liver failure ultimately leading to his death.
Statistics available with the Sindh Health Department identified the latest fatality as the fourth death due to Dengue since August, however, private medical practitioners identified this to be the sixth in the metropolis during the same period.
Deaths confirmed by the provincial health department authorities included that of three women and the young Jawad. The deceased were a 40 year old lady from Hyderabad admitted to a Karachi hospital with hemorrhagic viral fever, another 30 year old wife of a known pathologist who succumb to Dengue Shock Syndrome, a 17 year old girl and Jawad (22 years).
Co-ordinator, Dengue Fever Reporting Cell told APP that 14 new admissions of the concerned patients was reported from 10 different hospitals of Karachi on Tuesday while 85 another are hospitalised with Dengue Fever for past few days. The hospitals that notified the confirmed cases included OMI, Osmania, Baqai, Bismillah Taqee, Zainab Panjwani, JPMC, Civil Hospital, Liaqut National, Aga Khan and Abbasi Shaheed.
Deputy Director - JPMC, Dr Seemien Jamali told APP that 36 cases of viral hemorrhagic fever have been reported to the hospital during past one month period. The patients were said to be mainly pertaining to elderly age group but fortunately no death was reported due to timely and proper medical intervention.
