Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday adjourned hearing of a writ petition filed against the import of sugar from India till October 3 as customs' counsel did turn to the court. The court directed the counsel to appear before the court and submit his submissions on next date of hearing.
A farmer Lucman and Sugar Mills Association have challenged the import of Indian sugar arguing that the imported sugar was hazardous to public health.
However, the company, Swera Traders,which imported the sugar, while contending the petitioner arguments stated that the sugar in question was being consumed in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and other countries, adding that in the past the sugar had been imported from the different countries but never subjected to sampling.
