The provincial food department is supplying 17,000 tons of wheat to the flourmills to meet 11,000 tons per day requirement in the province. Punjab Minister for Food Hussain Jahanian Gardezi told APP on Wednesday. He said there was no shortage of wheat in the government godowns.
"Federal government has already banned the export of wheat and one million ton wheat is being imported to ensure ample availability", he observed. Jahanian Gardezi said sudden rise in the demand of Atta in early Ramazan pushed up the prices, which were stable in the open market.
He said Atta was available at fixed ex-mill rate of Rs 285 and retail rate of Rs 295 per 20kilogram bag. He reiterated that there was no scarcity of the commodity anywhere in the province.
