Second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia won a scrap with Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 6-7 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Grand Prix on Wednesday. Kuznetsova, who received a first round bye, served superbly throughout but after edging the first set she missed key breakpoint chances in the second to let her opponent off the hook.
Radwanska survived to a tiebreak, which she won 7-5, before Kuznetsova reasserted herself to move 5-0 ahead in the decider. The world number two missed a chance to serve for the match at 5-1 but she made it at the second attempt, clinching victory in two hours 15 minutes to reach the last eight at the $650,000 indoor tournament.
